The Lawrence Partnership believes the strongest economy is one that benefits the whole community.
One where local businesses compete in regional and global markets. Where service providers meet the needs of residents. Where the retail sector is vibrant. And where the labor force is diverse, supported, and prepared for long-term success.
We are a network of community-minded leaders actively engaged in creating a local business environment that is growth-oriented and fosters shared prosperity. It’s a proven recipe that promotes equity, innovation, and resilience—and it works.
The Lawrence Partnership was launched in 2015 by leaders from local businesses, area banks, nonprofits, educational and healthcare institutions, and government—each committed to building a resilient, inclusive, and equitable local economy.
Always guided by a people-first strategy, we develop and implement initiatives that:
We work with partners to ensure economic growth is inclusive, strategic, and accessible—especially for businesses and individuals who traditionally face barriers to opportunity.
We leverage investment capital and expert mentoring to support new and small businesses that have difficulty accessing both.
We also collaborate with large organizations to create lasting employment opportunities and upward mobility for our citizens. And we serve as an advocate for the City of Lawrence—communicating our milestones, successes, and optimism for the future across the region.
The Lawrence Partnership is, by nature, a collaborative body that convenes stakeholders to implement projects and ideas that no single organization could achieve independently.
Our work is guided by the principles below:
If another group is positioned to lead a project, the Partnership supports that group rather than competing with them.
Principle: Support leadership wherever it already exists.
We approach challenges with the capacity and commitment to pursue large-scale solutions over long time horizons.
Principle: Build for long-term community resilience.
A growing economy can create pressure and displacement. Through intentional policies and strategies, those impacts can be minimized.
Principle: Prioritize economic opportunity for current residents.
The greatest outcomes come when the public, private, and nonprofit sectors work together.
Principle: Engage all sectors at every stage.
Lawrence’s future is tied to its neighboring communities and the Merrimack Valley region.
Principle: Build regional partnerships that strengthen the whole economy.
Lawrence’s diversity is one of its greatest assets and a key driver of its identity and success.
Principle: Celebrate and build on the strengths of our community.
